San Juan is the most popular tourist destination in Puerto Rico—because of its tropical weather, abundant water sports and historical significance. It is also a great place to settle down for both growing families and retirees.
The beaches of San Juan and surrounding areas are relaxed and uncrowded most weekdays. And each beach has its own unique personality, from trendy Miami-style scenes to casual and intimate, there is something for everyone. In all of them, you’ll find vibrant culture, friendly neighbors and local shops and restaurants.
Once you’ve soaked up all the sun you need, there’s still plenty to do in and around San Juan. About 45 minutes southeast from San Juan, you’ll find the Enchanted El Yunque National Rainforest. Perfect for day hiking, the rainforest features waterfalls in a tropical paradise setting. If you’re looking to get out of the sun, Camuy River Cave Park is about 90 minutes west of the city. It is the world’s third largest underground river system and is sure to thrill children of all ages. Of course, if you want to just relax, you can try your luck at the numerous casinos in Isla Verde and Condado or enjoy some of the best restaurants in the Caribbean.
